Together with the software release version 1.25 of ufdbGuard , a new URL category, Social Networks, has been released.  The new URL category contains the URLs of the sites that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people. 

The new URL category can be used with all previous versions of ufdbGuard and the installation procedure of ufdbGuard v1.25, automatically adds a definition of the new URL category to existing configuration files, where an administator only has to add the URL category (socialnet) to the ACL if the URL category is to be used.

Transition Period

Before the release of the new URL category, social networking sites existed in various URL categories like entertain, private and chat.  As from the release date, the social network sites are still part of their original URL categories and part of the URL category socialnet.  There is a transition period of 2 months, where the social network sites remain part of all categories.  After the transition period, the social network sites will be removed from their old URL categories and only exist in the URL category socialnet with only a very few exceptions of sites that offer much entertainment value.  During this transition period all clients of URLfilterDB should make a decision on whether or not to block the new URL category and modify the configuration of ufdbGuard accordingly.
