Release Notes for ufdbGuard version 1.29

ufdbGuard v1.29 was released to resolve 10 issues and to implement new functionality and speed improvements.

Fixes for Issues

  • ufdbguardd could crash when it received a URL with a very long domainname
  • allow use of a default ACL rule without defining sources
  • ufdbGenTable sometimes gave misleading warnings about www. in URLs
  • ufdbGenTable interpreted URLs like www.example.com/foo?url=http://www.example2.com wrong
  • URLs like www.example.com?a=0 (without a slash) sometimes gave erroneous results
  • fix issue with '?' in URL for Google edufilter
  • sometimes ufdbUpdate cannot send a HUP signal to ufdbguardd to reload the URL database
  • sometimes time-based ACLs were not evaluated correctly
  • ufdbhttpd sometimes hangs on URLs of sitestat.com
  • the safesearch option caused errors for Google Insights

New Functionality

  • much faster configuration reload time (in order of 5 seconds)
  • support for the use of the URL list of PhishTank
  • new Google API and new Bing API added to the list of SafeSearch search engines
  • duck.co and duckduckgo.com added to the list of SafeSearch search engines
  • ufdbhttpd has improved support for blocked videos which are substituted by a very short video showing three dots instead of an empty binary stream
  • CA certificates can be defined with a directory.  A new keyword cacerts-dir was intorduced to support this feature
  • ufdbGuard gained detection of of the new subcategory citrixonline (part of category external applications) over HTTPS
  • new keyword "logpass" to log explicitly allowed URL categories
  • ufdbGenTable is 15% faster when glibc is used
  • new option strip-domain-from-username to match usernames sent by Squid with PAM usernames
  • new option -C verify verifies a configuration file
  • issue an improved error message when the keyword "aggressive" is used as a category identifier

URL database

With the release of ufdbGuard v1.29 the following new subcategories of the URL database are released:
  • the URL category External Applications has a new subcategory CitrixOnline
  • the URL category Social Networks has subcategories for Badoo, Facebook, GooglePlus and Twitter

Release

The CA certificates used by various security options are now also distributed with the software to enable the use of security features without using a URL database from URLfilterDB.
