A URL filter is software that is part of a
proxy server and blocks undesired
web pages on the internet
based on the URL of the web pages.
The URL filter can be configured to block
certain types (categories) of web pages.
For example, the URL filter can block http://www.sex.com if you decide
to use the adult category of URLfilterDB.

What is ufdbGuard ?
ufdbGuard
is an extremely fast and free
URL filter.
ufdbGuard can be used with
the web proxy Squid.
Squid and ufdbGuard are installed
on a server and there is no software installed on PC's.
ufdbGuard has a license
that makes it free for use but protects the copyright
and
uses a blacklist filter method
to block undesried websites.
|
What are the benefits of
URLfilterDB and ufdbGuard ?
With URLfilterDB you have an excellent database
with URLs to block unwanted web content.
With ufdbGuard you have the fastest URL filter software available.
A URL filter enables you to enforce an internet usage policy where
a policy could be to not read personal emails, go to enterteinment sites etc.
Depending on the web surfing behaviour of the users and depending on using the
advertisement category, the bandwidth usage may decrease by 40%.
In the product analysis
it is clearly described why ufdbGuard
is better than other products.
|
How fast is ufdbGuard ?
ufdbGuard is the fastest URL filter
with 50,000 URL verifications/sec
on a single processor (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running Linux
while on the same hardware platform competitors
only perform 7,000 URL verifications/sec.
ufdbGuard is fast because
the software uses a new unique algorithm and
is written in ANSI C.
|
How can I use ufdbGuard ?
Use ufdbGuard as the URL filter for the popular
web proxy Squid.
ufdbGuard can be used
by setting the redirect_program parameter in
the configuration file of Squid.
Detailed information comes with the distribution of ufdbGuard.
|
What are the plans for future versions ?
Future version will include and enhancement to reduce the load time of the URL database.
A new product is being developed to implement a URL filter using the
ICAP protocol. The ICAP server
will support Squid 3.0 and other products
that use the ICAP protocol for URL filtering
and is scheduled for Q1 2008.
The Internet Content Adaptation Protocol, or ICAP, is
a standard protocol defined in RFC 3507.
More information about ICAP is here.
